Highbury Garden

A soft naturalistic style of planting and landscaping ensures a rustic charm.

Stage 1

The Brief

Our clients were a young couple undergoing extensive works to their Victorian house, and wanted to ensure a feeling of maturity to their newly constructed garden. Despite its small size, it was important that we provided enough space for entertaining, with ample planting as they are both keen gardeners, and wanted to maintain the space themselves.

Stage 2

Design and Build

We were able to retain and reshape some of the overgrown trees and shrubs, a Sambucus Nigra, an Acer atropurpureum and Magnolia grandiflora, and carefully designed and built around them to ensure that no roots were disturbed. A green screen of high panel Pyrus chanticleer along the rear boundary, provided much needed privacy and seclusion. A subtle palette of natural materials, limestone paving, pavers, and gravel, with oak deck and fencing, off set with lush planting, create a woven tapestry of textures and foliage that work together to shape a naturalistic garden.

Quercus oak woven panels were used as boundary fencing on top of the existing brick wall, to provide attractive screening and a soft framework to the garden.
